Is it possible for a foreigner living in this country to be successful? Sophia Berkati-Dijkhuis thinks it is! If you want a really good job, you need to know the Dutch language and society very well. It's even better if you keep cultivating your own language and culture too.
When you come to live and work here as a foreigner, you will meet many strange things, like:
- you don't really belong to the team at work. This makes that you sometimes miss information
- you don't understand your clients exactly and make mistakes
- finding a job doesn't work like at home
- you need to tell what kind of person you are and how you work
- the boss acts very kindly, but you still have to do what he or she says
- Dutch colleagues interact in a quite different way than in your country
- how does a performance interview work?
- you can't follow meetings on your job so well, because you lack knowledge of the Dutch language
Still it doesn't need to be this way. Many foreigners do have a good job or their own business. They have good relations with their Dutch neighbours and friends. They feel they belong here.
You can learn these things very well. You too can soon have a satisfying job and feel comfortable in the Netherlands. I will teach you how to speak, understand, write and read very Dutch. And I will help you to understand the Dutch culture, so that you won't feel like a stranger.
